PITTSBURGH -- McCardle Roadway is expected to remain closed for at least another month after a massive landslide shut down the road several weeks ago.

Pittsburgh Public Works director Rob Kaczorowski said repairs will cost about $700,000. He said the city has been working on a solution that includes building a 25-foot retaining wall from McCardle Roadway up to Grandview Avenue.

Mayor Luke Ravenstahl said the project should be complete sometime in March.

"I think the important news that residents will like to hear is that we are doing this right. This will be the last time this happens on McCardle Roadway. It's going to cost us a lot of money to do that but once this is completed McCardle roadway will be open again,"

Kaczorowski said they thought they could just go in and clear some of the hillside away, but crews ran into some mine water issues that complicated the repairs.

Drivers should continue to find alternate route to get to Mount Washington.
